As fishing goes the past week has been good and at times very good as the croaker bite continues to improve. As the weather smoothes out things should bust wide open with big trout and good numbers on most trips. With the hard winds of the past few day’s I retreated to protected waters and still managed good numbers of fish on both live shrimp and croaker. I have openings during the week thru June and some weekends in July still open so give me a call to book at 713-203-5386. Capt. Cecil

Things are looking very nice for the coming weeks, as the BIG Trout have shown up in the bay. I have used live croakers and between myself and Captain Nathan (my son) we have caught many nice fish. The numbers of fish has not gotten way up but several big fish make for a nice box at the end of the day. The winds have started coming down which is nice and will drive up the numbers of fish because we will have more areas to fish. Capt. Cecil

Things have been fairly steady with good boxes of fish being taken this past week. However today was as much fun as I have had in a while as we caught a very nice box of trout to 5 pounds with all the fish going for live croaker. That’s right I said live croaker, this was the first time this year I used them and MY-OH-MY it was a great bite. I only have weekday’s left open in May and June, which are great day’s to play hooky from work, so give me a call to plan your fishing trip at 713-203-5386, I won’t tell the boss. Capt. Cecil

Another week of spring winds has kept me fishing in very protected waters, however we have managed to have fairly productive days despite the winds. I think the coming weeks will see a decrease in the winds and more opportunity’s to fish a wider area of the Galveston Bay Complex. Some fish are starting to put on eggs and croaker will soon become a very good bait. I plan to start shifting down to Topwater Grill in San Leon pretty soon for upcoming trips. I will let you who are already booked know the day before your trip where to meet. The time is now to get booked for May, June and July as I have just a few weekend dates available, give me a call at 713-203-5386 to book. Capt. Cecil

Spring is here and so are some nice Trout and Redfish, today Jon Boone of Houston got the 2nd quarter BIG Trout leader board going with a very nice 22 inch 4 pound Trout. Jon landed the trout using an ultra light-spinning reel with 4-pound test line; it was a great battle with Jon coming out on top. Jon and his friend Frank had a great day on the water catching a little sun and a nice mess of trout and redfish. All week has been productive with nice fish being caught and spring like conditions all week long; I have several openings in April so call 713-203-5386 to get in on the action. Capt. Cecil

This is no joke, Mark McCurrley of Cypress TX was the winner of the first quarter BIG Trout contest and will be on the winners trip in January or February of 2009, Congratulations Mark. Well water temperatures of 72-73 degrees should heat up the fishing as spring gets its act together. I have been catching fair numbers and decent sized trout and redfish when the winds and tides cooperate; the good news is we are starting an 8-day run of good 4 a day tides. Look for the trout in 3-5 foot of water and live shrimp has been great bait of late, the redfish have been a little shallower and some bigger trout have been in 2-3 foot of water at times. Capt. Cecil

As March ends I sure hope it goes out as a lamb, because March has pretty much been a lion all month long. Good news we were able to capture some fish even on the windiest of days. Since my last report catches have been fair with a good mess of fish going home after each charter. The fishing has been really fun despite the wind with everyone catching something, to include lot’s of just undersized redfish and trout, along with a fair number of keepers to near limits on a couple of trips. April has many open spots so give me a call to book a spring fishing trip soon at 713-203-5385. Capt. Cecil

Well myself and my son Captain Nathan Gray did not have a trip this morning so we took off looking for a few new areas to fish, and to make sure we still had fish in the areas we have been fishing. We had a great time out on the water, we picked up several nice trout a few reds and all were released to be caught again another day. Capt. Cecil

We had a great day on the water today despite the winds returning to near gale force strength. Doug and Darrel went right to work landing several fish that were just short of the 4.4 pounder needed to take over the big trout leader board. We stayed after them and had a fairly steady bite all morning long ending the morning with a very nice box of trout and one keeper redfish. We had several redfish that did not make the 20-inch minimum but only a couple of the trout were undersized. Check out their catch “Doug & Darrel 3-25-08” on page 5 PIC # 2 of the picture page of this website. Fishing is improving so if you would like to get out just give me a call and I would be glad to help you arrange your Galveston Bay Fishing Trip. Capt. Cecil

I hope all are having a great Easter Holliday today. I certainly enjoyed being with my family at Church today and watching my granddaughters hunt eggs and prizes at our family party. Nice job Laci on finding the golden egg and Emily, who found a silver egg, oh yea nice job Madison, on eating everything she found. Well spring break trips were a little tough the last few days’ however we managed to get a mess of fish on each trip and 2 big trout leader board changes, current leader 23” 4.3 pounds. The bay continues to recover from the very hard winds the first half of this past week with a little better numbers of fish being taken from the upper Galveston Bay area Saturday, were my son (Capt. Nathan) hung a nice 25” 6 pounder. I fished a couple of trips from Topwater Grill this week and others from Thompson’s Marina in Baytown, so for those of you who have trips pending remember I will call you the day before your fishing trip to firm up location and time. I have several openings in April so give me a call to get in on some spring fishing action today at 713-203-5386. Capt. Cecil

I would like to thank Tommy and his wife Tracy for allowing me the opportunity to take their wonderful kids fishing today. Bradley and Haley truly showed their love for fishing working baits in very fast moving tides and equally strong winds. We new it would be tough but there talents landed the family enough fish for dinner tonight, check out there picture on page 5 of the picture page of this website under “Bradley & Haley Spring Break 2008” Capt. Cecil

Well the saying is “the best time to go fishing is whenever you can” and today was the best time for Jody, Laura, and Jody’s dad Dick. They truly made the very best of a very windy day catching 8 nice speckled trout along with 2 keeper redfish, not to mention several just undersized fish. You can check out there picture on page 5 PIC # 15 on the picture page of this website. All in all today despite all the wind turned out to be a great spring break fishing trip. Capt. Cecil

We had a fun day on the water today with beautiful weather and a fair box of trout. The bite was slower than yesterday I think mostly due to slower tide movement. The high winds never showed up and made for a nice day on the water. Capt. Cecil

Another good day on the water today with a nice box of fish and improving fishing conditions. The water was off colored in some areas but I managed to take trout in spite of that using live shrimp under a popping cork. Most fish were 16 to 20 inches but very fat, it looks like they are getting ready to spawn? I sure hope so because I got the first croakers of the year today yet all the fish went for live shrimp, but soon they will go off on those croakers. Capt. Cecil

Well since the fishing show ended Sunday my son and I have been out several times with a fair bite going on in the upper Galveston Bay area. One thing we have noticed is that the trout seem to be hitting live bait better than artificial baits. We are fishing live shrimp under popping corks in about 4 feet of water over a sort of muddy bottom with broken shell around. On one of my recent trips the fish were starting to slick up when the tide was moving, and this really helps locate the action. I have the next 2 day’s open and only 1 day next week that being Tuesday the 18th, then I have the 26th 27th & 31st left open for the month of March. I have several openings in the month of April so call to book your spring trips soon. Capt. Cecil

Wow winter is back albeit for a short visit as the forecast is for warmer weather to return starting Monday, which is just great as the 2008 Houston Fishing Show ends Sunday. The show has been really nice this year with several new exhibits added. I would like to thank all who have been by the booth (#343) to visit with Captain Nathan (my son) and myself; we’ve heard some great stories and had a lot of laughs. We look forward to seeing folks at the show and getting the opportunity to talk a little fishing. Before the show opened we were picking up pretty good numbers of decent sized trout and lot’s of just undersized redfish along with a keeper red mixed in here and there. All and all I believe spring will be busting out as the show ends. I have some openings this coming week the 10th thru 14th, but I only have Tuesday the 18th and Saturday the 22nd left for spring break week. Give me a call at 713-203-5386 to book a spring break trip today.

How nice it is to finally fish in shorts and a short sleeve, spring is truly upon us. Today started off very fogy for the first ever Livewell fishing club fun tournament, but by weigh in time it was beautiful no doubt about it. There were 17 entry’s in the tourney with some nice catches to boot, I had 2nd largest stringer and 3rd largest trout, maybe I will take first next time in one of the category’s. The fun thing about this tourney is you have 4 chances to place, 1-overall heavy stringer, 2-largest Trout, 3-largest flounder, and 4-largest redfish. The next tourney is March 29th and it only cost 10.00 per tourney with a one-time 25.00 registration fee, you can go to www.thelivewell.com for more information. I was on good numbers of trout today and the biggest one was 21” 3.4 pounder along with lots of undersized redfish, I had a limit and released many trout that were keeper sized. These fish should be hanging around and getting bigger for spring fishing so give me a call to book that spring break trip at 713-203-5386. Capt. Cecil
